SEO Analytics & Reporting

Organic / Local SEO Reporting

Sometimes monthly SEO reports can just be full of vanity metrics- which may not make much sense!

However, we just state the facts, we use GA4, that’s Google Analytics, plus Google Search Console in all of our reporting. Then we have subscriptions with Moz

Pro and Ahrefs, we track the metrics that truly matter.

We measure:

  • Organic traffic
  • Keywords
  • Backlinks
  • Bounce rates
  • Dwell times
  • And more

That means we measure organic visitor numbers and how those visitors have changed month on month.

Then the “money terms” the keywords that really make a difference, we include them in the report as well.

Quite often, the important keywords are called the keywords which have a high search volume.

These are therefore the keywords that shopper’s type when looking for your goods or services.

Therefore, rather than using graphs, and endless pages within the SEO report, we instead condense it down. We include the most crucial details, such as where the business ranks for that important keyword. This is the type of SEO reporting that we have offered for over 14 years and it has worked.

The directors and businesses that we work with often prefer condensed reports, which give you a fast insight into how the SEO is performing.

For some clients, such as e-commerce businesses, we monitor bounce rates across the entire website. We can also break visitor numbers down by “direct”, “organic” and “direct”. Also, for some businesses, if they would like, we can even tell you how many visitors are coming via AI platforms, such as Google’s Gemini, ChatGPT or let’s say Perplexity.

We therefore measure closely how customers are finding your website. We are the experts at increasing a business’s organic traffic. However, we also focus on gaining you more visibility in the AI platforms, such as Google AI Overviews through to ChatGPT. We also help you gain more customers via Google Business.

Why is it important that my SEO company offers monthly reporting?

It’s important to have clear search engine optimisation reports sent each month from your chosen SEO company. This way you will know how things are improving in terms of organic rankings and organic visitor numbers.

How many quality backlinks have been added to the backlink profile?

What’s the company’s bounce rate like?

Which keywords have moved up Google’s ranks?

Therefore, by using marketing tools, such as Google Analytics, you can monitor SEO progress.

Monitoring the company’s SEO KPI’s is important, especially when a large core algorithm update is rolling out.

This is when “ranking flux” can occur, plus when businesses can sometimes change substantially where they rank in Google’s SERP’s.

Therefore, this allows both the client, plus the consultant to know how the website has reacted to that Google update. Did the website move up the organic ranks?

Did move down Google’s ranks?

Monthly reporting is therefore useful for both the client and the SEO consultant managing the account to see the impact of the work.

Local SEO and performance tracking

Here at Walsh & Partners we work with many local SME businesses. It’s important for these businesses to rank high for certain keywords. We can include those keywords in our reporting, plus we can tell you how many organic visitor numbers have been received. We then also make sure that we are completing monthly SEO work to further gain more local shoppers.

Whether this be NAP building, managing the companies Google Business account and so much more. We build links, we write the content, then we monitor the results. We use some of the very best SEO tools to track performance then to create our reports.

What our experts can do is increase your businesses visibility in Google Business and the organic results. We can then measure the impact of our work using Google Search Console.

This will tell us for example, during the course of that month, where the business ranked for a keyword. This is very different from vanity metrics, which are not that important. Instead, look at which keywords will bring the most visitors and shoppers to your website. We then monitor where your business ranks for those keywords.

We also use Google Analytics as this provides us with very accurate information in regards to where those shoppers are coming from. Are they for example coming via organic traffic, paid ads or perhaps through AI.

Continuous refinement

When it comes to implementing both organic and local SEO, it’s important to know that you can’t roll out the same work for every business.

Instead, different work needs to be implemented for different businesses.

The reason is often because of the level of competition that the business faces. For example, some companies will need more backlinks and more content marketing.

Therefore, the best SEO consultants will tell you that this form of marketing is not an exact science. Therefore, you can only implement the best possible work that you can implement, then monitor the results.

However, it’s the monitoring of the results that is key. For example, in some business sectors you may find that when you build backlinks, they start to overtake the competition quite fast. The reason is the competition may have weak links.

Winning SEO strategies

We now have over 14 years’ experience as a leading digital marketing agency.

We therefore know what works and what doesn’t.

With that said, we never get complacent, that’s why we are constantly checking the data to make sure our methods are working.

We track our clients keyword positions on a daily basis. We report once a month, however, by tracking the keyword movements so closely, we know what works and what doesn’t. when you have done this for as long as our agency, we have been able to develop winning methods. For example, we know how to implement on-page and off-page methods that simply move our clients towards success.

Plus, the reason why the team at Walsh & Partners are often hired is simply due to our wealth of experience. This means, we can in a very short amount of time, often in matter of hours after being appointed to work on a project, we know where the weaknesses with the companies organic or local search engine optimisation exist. We then use some of the best SEO tools on the market, such as Ahrefs to track the progress of our work. We write some of the best buying guides, we build strong backlinks, and we are technical SEO experts.

This means that our SEO company is often the first choice for many e-commerce businesses, plus local SME business.

How often will I receive SEO reporting?

For the vast majority of our clients, they would like a monthly SEO report. We then take the data from Google Analytics; this often includes the number of organic visitors. We then use also Google Search Console to monitor where keywords have ranked over the month.

For some businesses, they may require weekly reporting. For example, large e-commerce businesses may require a report once a week, our agency offer this as well.

What’s included in your SEO reports?

Our standard SEO reports can include the important metrics, such as how many organic visitors have been received over the month. We can also report on the average position for certain keywords over the month. Other businesses may want to know about the bounce rate, as well as the dwell times for that page.

Other businesses, let’s say for example, an e-commerce company they may want to know which backlinks have been built that month.

Therefore, the monthly SEO report can be customised depending on what the client would like.

Is your reporting suitable for eCommerce brands?

We work with e-commerce businesses, we regularly report on their organic visitors, direct visitors and also the visitors they receive from social media. We can also advise, for example, on the number of sales that day, week or month.

We therefore currently work with British e-commerce businesses to help those companies gain more visitors.

We use a combination of both on-page and off-page optimisation. We are able to bring shoppers to the site, then increase dwell time, whilst also reducing the bounce rate. This will be monitored by Google’s algorithms; when they see that we are creating high-quality pages with high dwell times, we are then able to move our clients up the ranks.

We have actually helped e-commerce businesses to just get on page one of Google for one keyword, but sometimes they are on page 1 for hundreds of different relevant keywords.

We can do this because our SEO company simply has extensive organic SEO experience.

Do you guarantee results?

This is a question that every agency will be asked, however, the honest agencies state no- here’s why.

The best agencies in the whole world know that sometimes you can implement work that is the best you can offer. However, due to Google algorithm updates, the whole of the SERP’s can be in flux.

This basically means sometimes Google is testing something new themselves.

Plus, no business, no agency, no marketing company has control over Google’s organic algorithm.

So, all you can do is implement the best work possible, this then means putting your best foot forwards and monitoring the results.

So, when an agency has been busy all week building links, sorting out technical SEO issues, and writing buying guides, you have to wait a while to see results.

Therefore, sure there will always be companies promising the earth, then underdelivering.

We are different.

Here at Walsh & Partners we work closely with our clients, we set a plan of action then implement it.

We then monitor the results, and feed this information back to our clients.

How often will we meet to review performance?

This is often dependent on the size of the project, for example working for a large e-commerce client will mean more regular meetings are needed.

When working for small local businesses, the meetings could be an infrequent as once every quarter.

Often a lot of meeting are completed online, with any questions answered via e-mail or over the phone.

What if I don’t know which metrics I should be tracking?

Your chosen SEO company should as a minimum set our which SEO keywords they are monitoring.

Then provide you with information on where that keyword ranked over the month.

Then another important metric to monitor is the company’s number of organic visitors.

However, within the report, you may also want to know how many shoppers arrived on the website from AI. For example, how many came via ChatGPT.

Often, many clients are using Google AdWords, as well as investing in organic search engine optimisation services with us. We therefore are sometimes asked to do a comparison, that is how many shoppers have come via AdWords, compared the organic visitors for example.

It’s also super important to monitor engagement, for example, what’s the bounce rate like on the home page?

What’s the dwell rate like on the home page?

Where would you say is the best place to obtain the SEO statistics from?

Each digital marketing company is different, however, here at Walsh & Partners we use both Google Analytics as well as Google Search Console.

We also use Ahrefs.

We use all of these marketing tools, to understand key search engine optimisation metrics, such as how many organic visitors are coming to the site as a whole.

We can also consider the performance on a page-by-page level, by analysing how many visitors come to say a article or main pages.

We therefore use the complete range of tools that Google offers, mainly Google Search Console which offers very reliable data. For example, you can check the average position for a keyword.

This is important because, quite often a digital marketing company will be tasked with getting a product or service to rank higher on Google. Therefore, you will want the report to clearly show the keyword ranking positions.

Therefore, many of our reports clearly show where a keyword ranks each month.

This allows our clients to see the progress that our agency is making.

Has your SEO company got much experience writing reports?

Our team are highly experienced in both using Google Search Console as well as Google Analytics.

We use this as our main marketing tools; we then transfer the statistics into a report for our clients.

Our team has over 14 years’ experience creating SEO reports. Therefore, we know from our experience that directors of companies often want simple and easy reports so that, at a glance, they know exactly how their search engine optimisation is improving.

For example, even on super complicated accounts, we can often consolidate the reporting onto one side of A4 or one single PDF page.
This makes it much simpler for the client, or the marketing manager at the company, to get a quick snapshot of, let’s say, how organic visitor numbers are increasing.

Why should we monitor organic visitors?

Organic visitors, for those that do not know, are the visitors which click on the organic results within the search engine results pages. The main bulk of Google’s business results, are still organic. These are commonly referred to as the “free visitors or shoppers” to a website.

This is totally different than “Pay Per Click” where you pay for every visitor to your website.

It’s important to monitor organic visitors, as you often want to increase this number, in order to bring more visitors to your website.

However, at the same time, you want to bring visitors which have strong “buying intent”. Meaning you don’t want visitors who are going to visit a page, think, that’s not relevant to what I want to buy or find an answer to, then they leave. The reason is if too many visitors leave quickly, this causes an increase in the bounce rate.

If a bounce rate remains high, that elevated for a long period, what this basically means is hundreds or let’s say thousands of visitors have just visited one page. They haven’t clicked on another page; therefore, Google can deem that the website is not answering the customer query.

For example, if someone was looking for a generic item, such as a washing machine, you would expect them to browse quite a few products before making a purchase.

If they just leave, after landing on one washing machine or page, this elevates the bounce rate. now this could be because, let’s say the product descriptions are too limited. It could be because the price is too high. It could be a technical SEO issue, such as the website is taking too long to load. Whatever the reason, you don’t want an elevated bounce rate, as it means that shoppers are not spending long on the website.

Therefore, you want instead, low bounce rate, and a high dwell time.

This shows instead that shoppers, are not leaving straight away, they are instead, spending a long time on each and every page. Which can in time mean, that Google sees that the e-commerce website has high engagement.

This can help to improve organic rankings.

Why is it important to monitor the bounce rate?

It’s incredibly important to monitor the company’s bounce rate, you need to use a reliable marketing tool such as Google Analytics for this work. This important metric basically tells you, how many shoppers landing on, say the homepage, then deciding to go elsewhere. This means they don’t visit another page, they simply leave, perhaps to go back into the search results and find another business.

Now, we have all done that ourselves as shoppers.

For example, let’s say we are browsing for an item, we click a meta title, we move from the organic results to the e-commerce website.

Then sometimes that website is really dated, so we don’t buy from them. We simply return back to Google’s organic results and we select a different business. This is called “pogo-sticking” or bouncing off the page.

Now, you might be wondering, well, how does that impact a business’s organic search engine optimisation?
But it does, because Google measures engagement by shoppers.

Therefore, if the average shopper is spending a huge amount of time, visiting many different product pages, that’s excellent. That is showing high engagement.

However, on the other hand, if a shopper, is shopping for say a washing machine, they land on a website, think the websites dated, they may leave. Causing the bounce rate to shoot up. Then when you open Google Analytics, well the bounce rate on a key page will be high.

This shows to Google that the engagement is low.

What does dwell time mean?

Dwell time, is also often referred to by many SEO companies as the “time on page”.
Basically, how long did the shopper stick around for? If they spent a huge amount of time browsing and comparing say products on the website, that’s great, that means high engagement.

Google’s super sophisticated algorithm would notice that the average shopper is spending a great deal of time on the website.

If the average dwell time is less than 30 seconds, well, this means that you’re not retaining the shopper’s interest for very long.

This could be for a wide range of reasons, for example the e-commerce website could be super slow. And in today’s world, no shopper waits around for long if a e-commerce website is slow.

They simply bounce of the page or “pogo-stick” to a competitor’s website.

Therefore, a slow website is a large reason why a companies bounce rate could be high.

Another reason is the website offers a poor U.X. this means that the user experience that’s offered to the shopper hasn’t been carefully thought through.

Therefore, what happens is that, the websites main navigation could make it hard for shoppers to simply find what they want to buy.

The large retailers in the world, such as Amazon, John Lewis and also Tesco, they make their main navigation super simple to use. Even though the companies stock thousands of products, because the main navigation is so simple to use, you can simply get to the product you want very simply. This means that these online retailers offer a good customer service and also user experience. Many companies therefore use A/B testing, to further improve the design, to keep making the web design even better.

Why should my agency be measuring UX metrics?

User experience metrics are important to monitor. For example, your appointed marketing company should carefully consider time on page and bounce rates.

For example, a page might be on page one of Google, and within the organic results.

However, if that page has a high bounce rate, that is sustained for a long period, then Google will notice this.

Using Google Rank Brain, Google’s algorithm could detect for example, that the bounce rate for that page is much higher when compared to the direct competitors pages.

Because the bounce rate is high, and especially because its high compared to the competition, this could mean that the page is moved down the ranks.

That’s basically because a lot of shoppers are deciding that the page is not relevant to what they were looking for. For example, it might be that the page is too slow, so the shopper goes to purchase something elsewhere.
Therefore, Google’s algorithm notices that the bounce rate is high, it might know the exact reason why shoppers are leaving, but they are following a trend of not spending long on that e-commerce website. They therefore are leaving and going elsewhere, this means that the bounce rate is high.

Then when Google does an algorithm update, it may move that page down, and replace it with a competitor, which has a page with lower bounce rate.
